Allot of people talk about grinding and putting in work, but truly have know idea what it takes to truly reach that next level of success. We got a chance to sit down with a man who is truly on his grind, DJ J-prince out of South Florida. Prince has labeled himself “Mr. Everything” in recent interviews. If you’re familiar with the South Florida Entertainment Scene than J -Prince is a name that should Ring a bell. J prince is currently the South Florida Marketing rep for G-Unit records, He is a club/mixtape/radio DJ, C.E.O of his own entertainment company, a staff writer and Marketing Director for Nine5four Magazine
NINE5FOUR: first of all let me say wow! And how the hell do you do it?
J-PRINCE: A whole lot of Red bull…lol. No but seriously i have been blessed to have great opportunities in my life. I love what I do so it never feels like work.
NINE5FOUR I know about all of your mixtapes. What made you want to attack the mixtape scene so hard this past year after the DJ Drama incident?
J-PRINCE: I just wanted to create a movement especially hear in Ft Lauderdale. There are not many mixtape DJ’s in Ft Lauderdale, so I wanted to establish the home team movement and put 954 on the map. If you go to Miami everybody and they mama is a DJ. I just want Ft Lauderdale to be represented like khaled is the DJ face of Miami. I want to be the DJ face of Ft Lauderdale.
NINE5FOUR: like you said there are allot of mixtapes out there, what separates you and DJ kreep’s mixtapes?
J-PRINCE: First of all we actually Mix…lol allot of these Internet DJ’s go on lime wire and download songs and call themselves a mixtape DJ. The game has become so over saturated with the fake, that its easy to shine! We treat mixtapes like albums. This is what we do so we put in 100 percent to make sure our shit is on point. It could take us like a month to finish one tape, we are real perfectionist.
NINE5FOUR: Give our readers a run down on your Mixtape resume?..
J-PRINCE we dropped the producers series volume 1 and 2. Those tapes feature the best work from the top producers. Volume one featured terror squad producers. Volume 2 featured the nasty beat makers and the Runners out of Orlando. We dropped a E ness tape for Bad boy records, we have like 5 tapes with local artist. We just have been getting it in man!
Nine5four: How long have you and your partner been dropping tapes?
J-PRINCE: We have only been dropping mixtapes for about 1 year, and all ready have 12 tapes in the streets! We try to drop one or 2 a month
Nine5four: you also do allot of promotions and marketing for record labels, tell us about that.
J-PRINCE: Yea I’m actually the South Florida promo/marketing rep for G-unit Records and TVT records. I basically make sure that they are getting the right promotion in the south Florida Market. I also have to visit radio stations and make sure the artist record is being played.
NINE5FOUR: Sounds like allot of work,
J-PRINCE: I love what I do so I’m like a kid in the Candy store! At the end of the day it’s about good music and both Labels are great!
NINE5FOUR: so what projects do you have coming up?
J-PRINCE: right now we are about to drop a bunch of new mixtapes for the summer, and we have a Ozone awards mixtape dropping as well. I also have a compilation album coming out for Nine5four Magazine and Prince of The City Entertainment dropping in the fall. Also look out for that second Nine5four magazine showcase which i will be deejaying at.
NINE5FOUR MAGAZINE :What clubs are you going to be spinning at?
